It was a historic evening for Quinte Red Devils graduate Maddox Dagenais.
The Quebec Remparts selected Dagenais first overall in the QMJHL Entry Draft after completing a significant blockbuster trade with the Cape Breton Eagles to secure the right to choose him.
His selection also marks the first time a father and son have been drafted first overall in league history.
His father, Pierre, had a distinguished career that included standout performances in junior hockey and stints in the NHL with the New Jersey Devils, Florida Panthers, and Montreal Canadiens.
Now, his son Maddox, is set to embark on a similar journey.
His dedication and skillset have already earned him significant accolades, reflecting his potential. He skates and trains daily at the World Elite Performance Centre in Belleville, where his father is an instructor, ensuring his development.
This season with the U16 Red Devils, the left-handed shooting forward showcased his dynamic offensive skills, recording an impressive 42 goals and 39 assists in just 35 games.
His outstanding performance earned him the OMHA East Player of the Year honours.
His momentum continued into the postseason, where he added 17 points in ten games, further showcasing his ability.
Dagenais has made further history, becoming the highest Red Devils player selected in program history. The honour previously belonged to Ethan Miedema, who was selected fourth overall by the Windsor Spitfires in the OHL Priority Selection.
As Maddox steps into the spotlight with the Remparts, he is poised to continue his family's tradition.
