As they prepare for the NHL Entry Draft, local prospects Ben Danford and Jared Woolley had the chance to display their athletic abilities at the Scouting Combine this week.
The event allows executives from across the league to evaluate the medical histories, and personalities of prospects through a series of fitness tests and interviews.
These assessments give organizations valuable insights that can help shape their decisions.
Being invited to the combine marks a significant milestone for both graduates from the Quinte Red Devils. In total, 62 forwards, 35 defencemen, and three goalies took part in the event hosted at the KeyBank Center and LECOM HarborCenter in Buffalo.
Ben Danford
Danford had a strong sophomore season with the Oshawa Generals, registering 33 points in 64 games with a plus-27 rating. His steady play on the blueline continued into the postseason, where he helped secure the Bobby Orr Trophy as Eastern Conference Champions.
Further solidifying his status, Danford finished in the top five in three skating categories during on-ice testing at the CHL Top Prospects Game last January. The Madoc Township resident followed that performance with a successful combine, completing multiple fitness tests with excellent results.
Danford is currently ranked 35th among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting.
Jared Woolley
In his rookie campaign with the London Knights, Woolley tallied five points in 37 games and skated in 16 playoff contests, contributing to an OHL championship.
Although he narrowly missed adding a Memorial Cup to his trophy case, his development has been impressive.
The left-shooting rearguard began the season as an affiliated player with the St. Thomas Stars of the GOJHL, where he tallied 21 points in 19 appearances before making the transition to major junior.
Woolley, a native of Port Hope, is listed 73rd among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting.
While the draft process is highly competitive, Danford and Woolley have shown the skillset needed to succeed. Their recent performances have shaped their futures and helped inspire local athletes in the Bay of Quinte region.
