The Trenton Golden Hawks will enter the 2024-25 season in style. The club unveiled their new jerseys at a special event on Sunday, August 25th. The sharp design is certain to be a hit with fans and collectors alike.
In collaboration with Shoeless Joe's Sports Grill Trenton and Homestead Marketplace, the Golden Hawks hosted a reveal for season ticket holders and media, providing an early look at the new sweaters and an opportunity to meet the players.
The team gear has been reimagined in a sleek gold and black pattern. The Royal Canadian (RCAF) Air Force's F-86 Sabre fighter jet remains the centrepiece, prominently featured on the garments’ chest.
This imagery highlights the strong connection the city of Trenton and the RCAF share, a partnership the organization proudly embraces.
In 1959, the RCAF Golden Hawks Aerobatics Team took to the skies in their iconic F-86 Sabre aircraft. By 1960, the team was based in Trenton, where today, a Golden Hawk is proudly displayed outside the Duncan McDonald Memorial Community Gardens.
The jersey redesign builds on the history of the franchise and last season's tribute to the RCAF centennial celebration, which saw the team don blue and white commemorative jerseys in honour of the anniversary.
One of last season's most impactful initiatives was the Saves for Vets campaign, led by star goaltender Ben Bonisteel. The netminder and franchise helped raise more than $6,500 for VETS Canada, a charity that supports Canadian Armed Forces veterans facing homelessness.
Ben graduated from the Golden Hawks last season, and will play for NCAA Canisius College this year.
The campaign was one example of the Golden Hawks' dedication to the military community in Trenton, which is home to the nation's largest air force base.
"Last year was special with the blue commemorative Royal Canadian Air Force jerseys," said head coach and general manager Derek Smith. "When you think about the Golden Hawks, it's black and gold. There is a lot of history here. It's an exciting day for us to show the public what we're going to be wearing this year."
Over-age forward Corbin Roach shared his coach’s enthusiasm.
"It was nice rocking the blues last season for the anniversary, but I think it's awesome to get back to the gold and black this year," he said. I'm excited to rock them."
The Golden Hawks have once again set high expectations for the upcoming season. After capturing the East Conference regular-season title with a 43-11-1-1 record and a remarkable plus-155 goal differential. Their postseason journey took them to the Buckland Cup finals, where they fell to the Collingwood Blues in Game 6.
Fans won't have to wait long to see players wear the new jerseys in game action. Trenton is set to open their regular season against the Cobourg Cougars at home on Friday, September 6th.
