Mauro returns to Trenton as Golden Hawks gear up for the season
The Trenton Golden Hawks have completed a trade to acquire the playing rights of over-age forward Devin Mauro from the Espanola Paper Kings in exchange for a player development fee.
A dynamic offensive talent, Mauro brings plenty of experience and scoring ability, which the Golden Hawks are eager to integrate into their lineup.
Mauro spent last season with the Sudbury Wolves While in the OHL, he skated in 38 games, recording one assist and 17 penalty minutes. Despite his limited statistical output, he showcased his ability to compete on a roster that featured numerous NHL prospects.
His versatility and hockey sense will be valuable assets for the Golden Hawks.
Mauro is no stranger to the Duncan Memorial Gardens. The Sault Ste. Marie native previously called the arena home during the 2021-2022 season, where he was a key contributor with 41 points in 53 games.
His brother, Justin, also played for the club that season. His familiarity with the franchise and the Bay of Quinte region should make for a seamless return.
His play is expected to make an immediate impact as he rejoins the Hawks. He should be a key contributor as Trenton pursues another championship run.
Golden Hawks complete trade with the Milton Menace
In addition to Mauro's arrival, the Golden Hawks have finalized a deal to send veteran rearguard Luke Hampel to the Milton Menace in exchange for a player development fee.
Hampel, a native of Waterdown, recorded 14 points in 26 games for the Golden Hawks last season and skated in four playoff contests after being acquired from the Aurora Tigers last December.
His departure opens an opportunity for younger players to develop on the blueline as Trenton continues to shape their roster for the season ahead.
