Cousins celebrates Stanley Cup victory with hometown fans at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre
On Tuesday, hockey fans from across the Bay of Quinte region came together at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre for a special celebration honouring Nick Cousins as the local hockey hero made a memorable appearance with the Stanley Cup.
Cousins and the Florida Panthers won hockey's top prize in June after defeating the Edmonton Oilers in a hard-fought seven-game series.
Earlier in the day, Cousins hosted a private gathering with family and close friends at Trillium Woods Golf Course. However, the main event was all about sharing his latest achievement with the community that has supported him throughout his hockey journey.
Cousins began his hockey career locally as a youth with the Quinte Red Devils. He appeared in five games with the Trenton Hercs before joining the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
His early development helped shape his path to the NHL. Since he was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2011, Cousins, a high-energy forward, has found success at the highest level of the sport, skating for the Montreal Canadiens, Arizona Coyotes, Nashville Predators, and most recently with the Panthers.
Despite his numerous accomplishments, Cousins remains deeply connected to his hometown of Belleville and returns home each summer.
The latest visit with the Stanley Cup marks the fifth time in 15 years that a champion has brought the trophy back to the Friendly City. Previous trips have come courtesy of Andrew Shaw, Brad Richardson, and Matt Cooke.
