The Trenton Golden Hawks concluded their preseason in Wasaga Beach with an excellent performance at the 2024 Terry Geddes Cottage Cup Showcase, winning five consecutive games before a hard-fought 2-1 overtime loss to the Leamington Flyers in the final on Thursday evening.
Held at the newly built Wasaga Beach Arena, this marked the third instalment of the Cottage Cup, which featured eight teams participating in a round-robin format followed by a quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.
The Golden Hawks demonstrated their depth and talent throughout the tournament.
Trenton opened the showcase with a victory over the Powassan VooDoos and continued their winning streak, defeating Jungadler Mannheim and the Leamington Flyers. On the final day, Trenton shutout the Buffalo Jr. Sabres and secured another win over Jungadler before their overtime heartbreak in the final.

Several players led the offensive charge for the Golden Hawks, with forward Dalton Kane topping the leaderboard with six goals and one assist, while Corbin Roach matched him with seven points from five goals and two assists. Other notable contributors were Thomas Kuipers (1 goal, 5 assists), David Fournier (3 goals, 2 assists), and Devin Mauro (1 goal, 3 assists).
Defensively, Dillon Stiles tallied four assists, while Kyloe Ellis and Jacob Xu each recorded three points. In net, Brady Spry was near-perfect with a 3-0-1 record and a 0.64 goals-against average, while Ryan Moore won both his starts.
Despite falling just short of the title, the Golden Hawks showed they're ready for the upcoming season and are set to open their campaign at home against the Cobourg Cougars on Friday, September 6th.
